I got the phone call from the zinc platers to say my parts were ready, straight over to collect and get them dropped off for powder coating. The plan is to blast to remove rust, pickle to remove the last bits of corrosion and grease, zinc passive for corrosion protection and powder coat for colour. I’m quite aware that powder coating isn’t the most durable finish but hopefully it should be a problem with the zinc underneath to keep corrosion at bay. I’ll inject wax into the sections that will accept it.
Comparison of the budget T3 syncro front outer CV joint and a OEM GKN joint on the right.
Whole heap of underneathy type stuff collected from being blasted, all looking lovely and in much better condition than anticipated. Win.
Neil has finished the right hand side, wheel arch stretched, new flitch panel and rear corner sorted, by Jove, looks like it’s slowly coming together.
Note new trailing arm mount.
bollocks to to it, let’s do it right, new side panel on it’s way from Germany.
To the man in the street this may not look that interesting, however to an experienced vw T3 owner they will notice that this is a factory steel sunroof. I plan to get this fitted to my Syncro! Like the title says, brave or stupid!
